U.S. Congressman

CHRIS GIBSON

19th District of New York

Economy

With the nation still recovering from the worst economic recession since the Great Depression, the economy and jobs are on the minds of all of my constituents.  That is why growing our economy and creating an environment conducive to job growth are my top priorities.

Throughout Upstate New York, job creators have named rising healthcare costs, high energy prices and overregulation as impediments to growth.  I am focused on removing these impediments to growth that come out of Washington.  I have supported numerous initiatives to lower the cost of healthcare for small businesses, families and individuals, including legislation to empower consumers by giving them the ability to purchase affordable health insurance across state lines and medical malpractice reform.  To lower energy costs, I support expanded exploration and investment in clean and renewable energy.  In an effort to strike a balance on federal regulations, I have supported rolling back burdensome regulations and ensuring that regulations going forward are targeted and do not inhibit growth.  I am a proponent of a bill referred to as the REINS Act, which would require Congress to approve each federal regulation that is estimated to cost $100 million or more a year

We lost over $300 billion in revenues per year when we went into a recession in 2008 and we are now at the lowest level of revenues in relation to GDP in over 50 years.  By getting Americans back to work we can begin to regain those revenues.  This will allow us to get us back on the road to a balanced budget so that future generations can enjoy the same choices and freedoms we have had.
